Scenes From a Smallholding

“Ever wonder what it’s like to run an organic smallholding starting from scratch?”

TLB’s first book is called Scenes from a Smallholding, and is the story of an English suburban family’s first three years’ experience of setting up from scratch an organic smallholding in West Wales… then trying to run it. Be amused.. be very amused…

‘…incredibly witty…’ Western Mail;

‘…a minor classic..’ Morning Star;

‘…a Bill Bryson ‘down on the farm’… ALAN GEAR, HDRA.

Scenes from a Smallholding is by turns, hilarious, touching, and challenging; it is also highly informative. It has now been promoted to bedtime reading… largely because that ensures that it stays a safe distance from my desk. I go to sleep laughing. The funniest book I’ve read all year. 1st Edition Scenes from a Smallholding

Scenes from a Smallholding

What you get for your lolly:
248 pages; 51 cartoons; 80,000+ words, all in the correct order; and a couple of daft poems.

Since its launch in October 2002, Scenes from a Smallholding has sold tens of thousands of copies all round the world.

It’s a lot of fun and is a really useful starting point for anyone considering downshifting or downsizing: lots of useful points for any downshifter (or downsizer!) to consider, like money, purpose, planning, marketing, etc. And plenty of useful pointers on keeping sheep, pigs, cows, and poultry. Also, a surprising amount of helpful info on growing veg as garden or field crops.

Downshift (or downsize) with added confidence!

Scenes was spotted by a big publisher who reprinted it in a nice green cover, but with quite a lot of confusing black lines in the text, and fewer cartoons. They also commissioned the sequel volume, More Scenes… which is a much easier read.
